Watch out Santogold: Rye Rye is here

Last year, Santogold took the hipster world by storm, crossing over into Hip-Hop with various remixes of her song "Brooklyn we go Hard." This year, expect Rye Rye to do the same.

I was first introduced to Rye Rye through the video for her song "Shake it to the ground," which I randomly saw on MTV Jams of all places.

Apparently, she has been putting out straight bangers in B-More, but this next song should give her nationwide fame amongst the hipstas. Its called "Bang," it features MIA, and if recent experience is any indicator, expect to hear it on terrestrial radio in the summer of 2010. They aren't so quick on the uptake these days.

Peep the song here.

Flying Lotus

Electronica/Hip-Hop producer Flying Lotus is basically the 2nd coming of J. Dilla. He makes instrumentals that are rooted in hip hop, but go far beyond the genre's normal boundaries.

This video needs no explanation, just that its good.

That NASA Music

If you haven't heard this one yet, new-age hip hop producers (if you can even call it that) N.A.S.A. team up here with Kanye, Santogold, and Lykke Li for this track called "Gifted." Its on their new CD The Spirit of Apollo which I highly recommend. On this particular track, Santogold kills it as usual, and the video adds an interesting twist to the perception of the song.

Food Review: Jack and Jills

So maybe Im just a stereotypical white person, but I love breakfast food and breakfast places.

So I was taking these two girls out to breakfast one morning (my mom and sister, I know, baaalllliiinnnn!) and decided to try Jack and Jills in Beverly Hills (yea I know that rhymes), a place I had heard had good food, plus it was halfway between me (the hood) and them (the beach).

We got seated relatively quickly at around 10am, and immediately after a gargantuan line of angry customers emerged out of nowhere. Dodged one bullet.

We sat down to an immensely rushed wait stuff, who basically forced us to get our own silverware and waters because our waitress disappeared and the others refused to make any kind of eye contact while running to and from the kitchen. I literally had to wait to pounce on any busboy to run by me to get anyone to even acknowledge me.

My omelette was good, albeit pricey, and my mom and sister shared some below average pancakes. But those little blueberry muffins? bomb.

Not going back, not never.

Yea I've been cattin...

But I'm back. At least until I go to Macchu Pichu.

And what better way to apologize than to leave you with a classic?

South Park...

Not that Im a big fan of South Park at all (as in, haven't watched it since 4th grade) but I was high as balls and watched their most recent episode last week, which I had to say I enjoyed because they spent the whole episode attacking the Jonas Brothers and Disney, 2 of my greatest enemies of all time.

Anyways, you can watch the episode here.

This episode was also made MUCH more funny to me after seeing this video. If this isn't a sexual innuendo, I don't know what is.

Drake and Wayne- Im goin Hard

Sick today... feelin awful with waaaaayyyy too much work to do. But since I cant do finance feeling like this (or at all for that matter) I'll leave you with some heat.

DJ Capcom featuring Drake and Wayne- Im goin in.

If your STILL not on Drake, seriously, step your game up. The picture tells the story of how big this boy could be.

This is kind of pathetic...

Isn't it kind of pathetic when a TV show on a major network accurately shows that our armed forces are ill-equipped for a seemingly important task? I thought so.

Interesting video, worth a watch.

Kinda crazy...

Up late because Im sick and can't sleep... but this is kinda mind blowing.

Thursday, March 5, 2009

So yea, you see alot of shit on the internet that is crazy, will never happen, etc.

Even if none of these robots come to fruition, this article is still pretty mindblowing.

Throwback Classic: Billy Ocean Part 2

I couldn't resist...

Throwback Classic: Billy Ocean Edition

This video is great because:

1. His head looks so big, it might make him fall over.

2. The music video has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with the song.

3. The song is amazing. If your ever on a boat, throw it on full blast. You will know what I mean (props to the seymour's).

Makes you wonder...

Political Musings: Rush Limbaugh is a Fool

And he is at it again.

This is a video of him at the CPAC conference, spouting off again about how he wants Obama to fail.

He said,
This notion that I want the president to fail, this shows you the problem we've got. This is nothing more than common sense and to not be able to say it? Why in the world would I want what we just described: rampant government growth, wealth that is not being created yet is being spent? What is in this, what is possibly in this that any of us want to succeed? Did the Democrats want the war of Iraq to fail? They certainly did. And they not only wanted the war in Iraq to fail they proclaimed it a failure.... They hoped George Bush failed. So what is so strange about being honest and saying I want Barack Obama to fail if his mission is to restructure and reform this country so that capitalism and individual liberty are not its foundation?

Now, Rush Limbaugh is entitled to his views. He is entitled to believing in small government, defending the war in Iraq, and everything else he believes (I'm not an avid follower).

But this whole thing about wanting Obama to fail because Democrats wanted Republicans to fail in Iraq?

As my favorite columnist Bob Lefsetz would say,
utterfuckinghogwash.

Maybe Limbaugh's right, maybe the Democrats did want the Iraq war to fail so they could sneer at Republicans everywhere. If so, FUCK THEM. I personally thought that Iraq was stupid wrong, and everything else, but anybody who truly gives a shit about this country and the people in it does not want to see us fail in any endeavor we go forth in.

So in terms of the worst economic crisis of the past 80 years, Mr. Limbaugh wants Obama to fail? He wants the recession to get worse, having people lose their jobs, homes, and livelihood?

What, to prove a point, that his ideology is better than that of the Democrats?

Remember Pyrrhus?
Upon being congratulated for winning a battle against the Romans, he said
Another such victory over the Romans, and we are undone.

So go ahead, Mr. Limbaugh. Hope your right. Just be aware of what the consequences could be if you are.

Good Eats: Mexican: La Serenata de Garibaldi

To some extent, I consider myself a foodie, even if at the same time I don't have much money to spend on fine dining. In particular, I like restaurants that have good food for decent prices but are off the beaten path, especially important in the hot or not LA atmosphere.

Enter La Serenata de Garibaldi.

First of all, the one closest to me is in Boyle Heights, not exactly a neighborhood known for its fine cuisine. That being said, upon entering this particular restaurant, I felt transported to a restaurant in Mexico City, serving the new Mexican middle class that has arisen there in the past few decades. The wait staff (along with the majority of the patrons), mix Spanish and English as necessary, always putting the customer first, with no hint of contempt or smugness. They fill up your water religiously, tell few but wholehearted jokes, and will be completely honest about the best items on the menu.

But no matter how great the ambiance and service is, you really go to restaurants for the food, I know. And the food here is downright delicious.

We started with simple Guacamole and Chips, which while not the best I ever had (sorry, no where beats the Guac at Rosa Mexicano, NOWHERE), was still a great way to start the meal. We had a couple of Margaritas (I assume they would have kicked us out if we had asked for it blended, a plus) which had the perfect tanginess, and then proceeded to order 3 different fish specials from the menu, all of which we nearly swallowed whole. We did not have room for desert, but the Mexican coffee was the perfect compliment for the end of our meal.

So... No wait? Check. Great Service/Decor? Check. Affordable Prices? Check. Great Food? Check.

Don't judge it for the neighborhood. Judge it for everything else it has to offer.

Do I need to say anything more?
